Direct Flights to Vietnam from NZ

One of the top concerns Kiwis have is whether there are direct flights from New Zealand to Vietnam – and the answer is yes. Direct flights save you hours of layover time and get you into the heart of Vietnam faster. Here we break down your options and why they’re worth considering.

Direct Flight Options

From Auckland Airport, you can fly directly to Ho Chi Minh City on Air New Zealand or VietJet Air, which launched its direct service in 2025. The flight takes around 11 hours – just enough time to enjoy a meal, watch a movie, and doze off before landing. These airlines are among the best airlines to Vietnam for Kiwis who value comfort without the fuss of a connection.

VietJet Air offers competitive fares, while Air New Zealand brings its signature Kiwi hospitality. Both provide a smooth, modern experience. If you’re flying from Christchurch or Wellington, you may need a short domestic hop to Auckland first, but the direct flight itself is the real gem.

For those seeking the best airlines to Vietnam that also serve Hanoi or Da Nang, indirect options via Singapore or Hong Kong are available, but the direct Ho Chi Minh City route remains the fastest gateway. Planning your trip around this route can save you a full day of travel.

Benefits of Direct Flights

Direct flights mean you step off the plane in Vietnam with more energy and less jet lag. You skip the stress of navigating a foreign airport during a layover, especially if you’re travelling with kids. Imagine arriving in Ho Chi Minh City just over 11 hours after leaving Auckland – you can be slurping a bowl of pho by dinner time.

Kiwis who have flown direct tell us they appreciate the simplicity. No waiting for a second boarding call, no worrying about missed connections. The best airlines to Vietnam consistently receive praise for their punctuality and service on this route. It’s a reliable choice that maximises your holiday time.
